Haute Couture- why is it different?
- Some haute couture pieces are exclusively designed for one person only for some very specific occasions. For example, Gucci Premiere usually designs some stunning dresses for Blake Lively’s appearances that are exclusively for her. Designers don’t have profit out of these appearances. What they really want is to be talked about. They just maintain these operations because through this fame they can sell easier other products, such as cosmetics, perfume and their Ready-to-Wear lines, that are available for everybody.
- Haute Couture refers to a very limited target audience. Because of the high prices of the products, only a few costumers can afford them, especially celebrities and other public figures. Therefore it is no surprise that today only 2,000 costumers around the world can buy couture clothes.
- The materials and the fabrics that designers use, are different from the other fashion sectors. A haute couture piece can consist of normal fabrics, but also other materials, e.g. recycled materials. This happens because designers try to be memorable and to think out of the box.
- Usually haute couture pieces come in small sizes because they refer to fashionable celebrities and nowadays people believe that in order to be an It-Girl, you have to be skinny to fit all the requirements.
- Due to the high prices of the products, the pieces that are displayed in the stores are very limited. It is quite expensive for the brands to make more than they are making now, since these pieces require a lot of effort to be created.
